Loïc Assaud

Loïc Assaud is Full Professor of Materials Chemistry and Electrochemistry at the Institut des Matériaux Poreux de Paris (IMAP), which he joined in November 2024. His research centres on **electrocatalysis for sustainable hydrogen production** and membrane-based electrochemical energy conversion (PEM and alkaline water electrolysers), **lithium-ion and next-generation batteries**, and the **electrochemical modelling** of reaction kinetics, transport and interfacial processes. He combines materials elaboration and catalytic surface functionalisation with advanced characterisation (AFM, SECM) to probe structural, mechanical and electrochemical heterogeneities at material interfaces. Before joining IMAP he was Associate Professor at Université Paris-Saclay (2015–2024). He carried out postdoctoral research at the Laboratoire de Génie Chimique and LAAS in Toulouse (2015) and in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany (2014). He earned his PhD in Materials Science from Aix-Marseille University (Centre Interdisciplinaire de Nanoscience de Marseille, 2010–2013).
