Electrocatalysis for clean energy
MOFs are structurally ideal precursors for single-atom catalysts and metal-nitrogen-carbon (M-N-C) electrocatalysts that drive key reactions in hydrogen economy.
Reactions targeted
- Oxygen evolution reaction (OER): Fe-Co-MOF-derived catalysts reach overpotentials of 240 mV at 10 mA/cm² in alkaline media
- Hydrogen evolution reaction (HER): Ni-MOF-derived Ni₃P/C achieves Tafel slopes of 38 mV/decade
- CO₂ electroreduction: Cu-MOF-templated catalysts selectively produce ethylene at Faradaic efficiencies > 60%
Characterisation
Operando XAS at Synchrotron SOLEIL (ROCK beamline) allows us to track active-site speciation during catalysis in real time.
HydroPore link
The electrocatalysis work feeds directly into the EU HydroPore project's green H₂ production workstream, targeting PEM electrolyser stack integration.
